Trauma Month, Discounts for All! How Reiki Healing Can Help

Updated: May 9, 2019

Because we have all experienced some sort of trauma, and many are still recovering, while some never really do. I think when the Monthly Awareness calendar people were putting their list of things to honor for each month, they were talking about real trauma that include survivors of catalytic experiences which can involve multiple car crash pile ups, tornado's, hurricanes, but let us look at the definition of trauma. According to Merriam-Webster trauma is

a: an injury (such as a wound) to living tissue caused by an extrinsic agent

b: a disordered psychic or behavioral state resulting from severe mental or emotional stress or physical injury

c: an emotional upset

The longer you live the apter you are to experience some sort of trauma. We all get blindsided. Whether it be on the drive to work on some idle Tuesday or a call in the middle of the night, the important part is to handle it. You gotta handle it. Handling does not mean suppressing. That's bad. Suppressing it, as we all know, just lingers and stirs and eventually presents its ugly head as some sort of disease. Handle the crap that comes your way. Is it uncomfortable? It can be. Is it necessary? If you'd like to have healthy relationships with something other than an emotional service dog then definitely maybe.

How Reiki Healing Can Help

First and foremost what is Reiki healing? Reiki is the universal life force that surrounds us all. During a Reiki session, the practitioner works to channel that lovely energy into the client while getting the clients own energy to flow and clear the junk (stagnant energy) out of the body so that healing can take place. Reiki healing and trauma:

Trauma can be painful physically yes, but the mental and emotional mark it can leave can be downright devastating. It can bring on a host of issues including sleep problems, anxiety, irritability, an inability to cope. You may lose your appetite and find it difficult to concentrate. Sometimes a condition known as Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) develops with a range of symptoms:

* Re-experiencing the trauma through vivid and distressing memories or dreams

* Feeling numb as though you don't have the same range of feelings as normal

* Being in a constant state of alertness and anticipating danger

Because Reiki provides a gentle healing environment that is completely non-invasive and requires no verbal communication, emotions that are buried deep can be released without the need to talk about the painful experience. Experiences can be released without the client even thinking about the traumatic event. The Reiki experience with trauma can be not only releasing but relieving for the simple fact that you don't have to talk about it. Talking about pain in of itself is painful. The talking alone can trigger traumatic experience causing the person to relive it over and over again. I see it all the time at kid day. Mom's sitting around talking about all the trauma and drama and reliving it. I get why they are doing it but going over and over the event can reinforce the wound. It's like my 4-yr-old who keeps falling on the same knee, the wound is not healing and won't until he stops falling on that knee for a while. Thought patterns, belief systems, feelings, moods, behavior, physical health, etc can change and over time the individual's health as a whole can begin to deteriorate.
